BEHRINGER-CRAWFORD MUSEUM NATURE PLAYSCAPE

COVINGTON, KENTUCKY | SITE PLANNING AND LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE

Behringer-Crawford Museum is located in the historic 19th century Devou family home, set among the rolling hills of Covington, Kentucky’s Devou Park. The park itself provides a historical backdrop to the Northern Kentucky collections of the museum.

POD design prepared an innovative new playspace incorporating a log cabin play house, flatboat, rocky caves, fossils in a digging pit, and other natural elements. The entire play area is enclosed allowing children to run free, dig in the dirt, get to know the natural world, and at the same time, gain an understanding of the region’s pioneer settlements. The area has been organized around a textured, looping walk. Off of the main loop are several secondary walks and play areas for children to explore. The entire natural play area has been laid out to be accessible to everyone visiting the park.
