RTI INTERNATIONAL OFFICE BUILDING

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, RALEIGH, NC | SITE PLANNING & LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE

As part of a LEED Gold Certification process, POD Design worked to achieve credits in the areas of water conservation through the elimination of permanent irrigation and habitat creation by using native and adaptive plant material. In keeping with the projects goals of environmental sensitivity, POD also worked with the civil engineer to create a stormwater conveyance swale that would transport runoff into a wet detention basin, creating additional habitat on the site. This in turn led to the design of a dry gravel stream bed that winds throughout the site, connecting various parts of the campus.

Additional responsibilities of the firm on the project included plant material research, design of the front and rear entry plazas, landscape design for foundation and plaza plantings, and selection of plant material for the wet detention basin.
