CYPRESS GARDEN SENIOR CARE

FUYANG, CHINA | SITE PLANNING, LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE, THERAPEUTIC LANDSCAPE

POD Design was hired by the project architect to develop an assisted living facility based on the United States model. Increased opportunities in China for high-end (face-saving) care facilities have increased and our role was to develop a prototype residence in Hangzhou, China. This prototype served as a demonstration and training center for a new senior living management company. The initial 3,480 square meter (37,500 sq. ft.) facility was intended for 24 residents. It was intended that this facility would serve as a “brand” establishment for China Senior Care along with other models already in discussion. The ultimate goal was that this specific prototype would become the standard China. The design team engaged the client in a workshop to develop the guiding principles and design concept for this multi-level facility for aging adults. The wellness model design embraces the rich Chinese culture, with careful consideration of south-facing rooms, shaded courtyards, and easy outdoor access from all residential units.
